When we watched the Miracle of Life video, I asked you to pay attention to the relationship between the structures of the human reproductive systems (male and female) and their functions.
This week, I want you to describe 5 of those relationships. How is the shape of the structure help with fulfilling its function? How does its location help?
I expect your whole response to be about 1 page. As usual, you will post your response by Friday and then post 3 comments by next Monday.
I look forward to reading your work (as always).

The first relationship between a reproductive organ and it’s function is the location of a man’s testes. They are located right near the penis, and at a certain age, they begin to hang down from the body, specifically, the bodies’ heat. When the testes get colder, the make more sperm, which will be necessary as the male grows older. The relationship between the testes and the place where they are located, is that they are at the perfect temperature to make sperm.
The second relationship is that between the testes and their location on the man’s penis. They are located so that when they begin to make sperm, the sperm can easily be rushed to the penis, to be given nutrition, and to move out o the tip of the penis when it is necessary. The testes location is very strategic in the role of sexual reproduction, because ready sperm are quickly transported from where they are made in the testes, right to the penis. The relationship between the testes and the penis, is where the testes are located for sperm deployment.
The third relationship is that of the woman’s stomach and her vagina, specifically, where they are located. The woman’s stomach, in which the womb is located, is easily convenient to the vagina, so that during childbirth, the baby does not have far to go. Also, a woman’s stomach can stretch very far, so it is the perfect place for her to carry her baby, because the baby becomes very big before birth, and the stomach can stretch to fit it’s size. The relationship between a woman’s stomach and vagina, is how close they are to each other, so that childbirth is easier.
The fourth relationship is that between the ovaries and the egg. The ovaries are the egg’s essential part of life. They make the hormones, which help in the egg’s journey inside the woman. Because the ovaries are close to the egg when it begins it’s journey, they supply it with essential life. The relationship between the ovaries and the egg is that the ovaries are near the egg when it starts out, to give it life.
The fifth relationship is that of the egg and the sperm. This is much like the question, which came first, the chicken or the egg? Which needs the other, the sperm or the egg? The answer is, both. Without the sperm to fertilize it, the egg evaporates, and no new baby is made. Without the egg, the sperm has nothing to fertilize, and will eventually be killed by the female immune system. Without each other, they both die. So, the egg is an essential part of the sperm’s life, and the sperm is an essential part of the egg’s life. The relationship between a sperm and an egg is that they both give each other life and a purpose.
Now don’t ever ask me to repeat myself. It’s weird enough saying it all once.

Penis- It connects to the urethra and transfers sperm to the vagina. It is shaped the way it is so it can fit in the vagina.
Sperm- It is the male sex cell and it carries the male’s genetic traits. It is shaped with a head and a tail because it needs to be able to swim to the egg.
Egg- It is the women’s sex cell and it carries the women’s genetic traits. It round so it can get to the uterus through the fallopian tube.
Ovary- It produces the eggs. It is located next to the fallopian tube so the mature egg can go up the fallopian tube.
Testis- It makes sperm. It is shaped the way it is so there is room so the sperm can develop. They are located out side the man’s body because the temperature is three degrees lower then the internal temperature so the sperm can develop properly.

The first organ that I learned about and their function are the testicles. They are located outside of the body, which is colder tempurature than it is on the inside of the body. They need this cooler temperature in order to produce semen.
Another organ is the uterus. The uterus has three muscle layers, its also where the baby is devolped. The muscles in the uterus help push the baby out of the woman’s uterus and out the vagina.
Another organ is the fallopian tube. The fallopian tube has a layer of smooth muscle so it can move the egg. It also has cilia to help move the egg.
The third organ is the epididymis is a tube that moves sperm towards the penis.
The fourth organ is the vagina. The vagina is a muscular tube that receives sperm. The vagina can expand so it can give birth to a baby.
The fifth is the ovary. Ovaries produce estrogen. If the ovaries, or any reproductive organ, didn’t work then there would be no baby.

The parts of the male and female reproductive systems, are shaped, and located the way they are for certain reaons. For example: The testicles are located out side of a male’s body so that they keep at a certain temperature. They should be three degrees colder than the regular body temperature so there are no malfunctions with the sperm and so they can produce semen.
In a women’s body, the fetilized egg traveles down something called the fallopian tube. Inside of this tube there is a material called cilia. Cilia looks like little hairs sprouting from all sides of the tube. They help move the egg through the fallopian tube into the uterus.
The penis has its’ shape for a reason as well. When a man and a woman are trying to have a baby, this shape serves its purpose. During the process, the penis become erect, making it easier for it to fit and also release semen into the vagina.
Another organ is the males epididymis. This is a tube that makes it possible for sperm to be brought down to the penis and then able to be released into the woman’s vagina.
I use to ask my mom how such a big baby could pass through the vagina and into the world. At such a young age, all these facts about reproduction that we are learning now, did not seem possible in my mind. She explained to me that when a baby is about to be born, the vagina expandes. This is probably a good thing during birth. It makes it easier for the women to give birth, which is useful.
(OMG that was weird…)

Sperm: The sperm is shaped the way it is because it has to be able to swim fast to the egg
Egg: It is round so it can fit through the fallopian tube
Penis: it is shaped the way it is because it has to be able to fit into the vagina
Ovary: It is located where it is so that the egg can go down the fallopian tube
Testis: They are located outside of the mans body because of the temperature. The sperm have to have room to develop.

When watching the Miracle of Life movie, I learned how the shape and/or placements of some male and female reproductive structures help with it’s function.
The testicles (1) are situated outside of the man’s body in order to maintain the right temerature for the development of sperm. If the sperm are confronted with the wrong temperature, they will have malfunctions in maturing. The testicles are shaped the way they are to make room for the developing sperm.
The fillopian tube (2) is shaped like a tube (no duh) to help the fertalized egg pass on through. Cilia, inside the fillopian tube, help to push the egg into the uterus (3).
The uterus’ placement is very important. It is found above the vagina. It has three layers of muscle that help the baby into the vagina* (*which is called the ‘birth canal’ at this stage, my mom says).
The ovaries (4) are located next to the fallopian tube. This placement helps with it’s function because the mature egg can can go straight from the ovaries up through the fallopian tube.
The penis (5) is shaped to be able to fit inside the vagina. It is connected to the urethra which helps transfer the sperm into the vagina when ready.
That’s all folks!

Uterus- hold the embryo when it is developing. It is shaped like a pear and has protective walls so it can protect the embryo and hold it.
Folium Tube - The folium tube is what the embryo passes threw to get to the Uterus. It is hollow the egg can pass threw it.
Testacies- The testacies hold the sperm. It is a bunch of tubs formed together so it can produce as much sperm as possible.
Sperm- The sperm is designed to be able to fertilized the egg. The sperm has a flagella to help it move and it head is the shape it is so it can break in the egg.
Egg- The egg has many layers to it. The layer only let some of the sperm get so it can fertilize the egg.

Weekly Science Report
When we were watching “The Miracle of Life” video in class I began to realize why certain things were shaped a certain way. All of the organs in the reproductive system are shaped a certain way because their shape is helpful to their function. There isn’t a known reason of why they’re shaped that way, they just are. Five different organs that have shapes that are helpful to their functions are: the Fallopian tubes, the ovaries, the uterus, the testicles, and the scrotum. The Fallopian, the ovaries, and the uterus are all a part of the female reproductive system. The testicles and the scrotum are part of the male reproductive system.
The Fallopian tubes are long, thin tubes that move the egg from the ovaries to the uterus by making contractions. The Fallopian tubes also have something that is like cilia inside of them and the movement of the cilia makes a current that is hard for sperm to swim through. Sperm must swim up the Fallopian tubes in order to reach the egg. The shape of the tubes is very helpful to its function, because it has to move small things, like sperm and eggs, quickly.
The ovaries produce and make the eggs. The ovaries also release the two hormones progesterone and estrogen, which we learned today are essential in the luteal phase of menstruation. The ovaries are circles, and coincidentally the eggs that they produce are circles. After an egg has been made, the ovaries release the egg into the Fallopian tubes.
The uterus is a V-shaped organ that is hollow. It has a muscle layer, and other layers develop during menstruation to nourish an egg if it gets fertilized. The uterus has the capability of expanding to hold a fetus and it is contains some of the strongest muscles in a females’ body. This allows for the female to push the baby out. The opening that leads to the uterus is small and only large enough to fit a penis. This opening does expand when a baby is coming out. If the uterus was not strong, the baby would not be able to make its journey into the world.
The scrotum is the organ that holds the testicles and the epididymis. The scrotum hangs under the penis. The scrotum is an essential organ to the male reproductive system because it holds the testicles away from the body’s heat. The body’s heat is too strong for the testicles, which produce sperm. If the temperature is too hot or too cold, the sperm will be affected and not as much sperm will be produced.
Another organ in the male reproductive system is the testicles. The testicles are the organs that produce the millions of sperm in a male’s body. The testicles also produce testosterone, which is a hormone that plays a big role when a boy goes through puberty. Without sperm, an egg would not be fertilized, so the testicles are a huge part of reproduction.
All of the organs listed play a major role in the reproduction of a human. Somehow they are all related and are all needed at some point of a human’s life.
(Wow that was such a weird report to write ;]).

The penis is shaped the way it is so it can fit into the vagina and deliver sperm. It wouldn’t do any good inside the body so it is located outside the body.
Sperm are shaped like tadpoles so they can swim to the egg. They are located in the penis and testes so they can be delivered to the vagina.
Testes are sponge like to produce sperm. They are located outside the body for temperature reasons.
The vagina is shaped the way it is so that the penis can fit in it. Its located about the same place as the penis is so that they can connect.
I cant think of anything else.
That was uncomfortable.

The first connection between the structure and their function was the testes. It mentioned in the movie there is a critical degree or two that make it possible for the sperm to be created, and without the placement of the testes, this may not have been made possible.
The next connection I made was that the sperm had a tail, and that it needed to swim. This is the only connection that I made without having to think for a while. Without a tail, the sperm wouldn’t be able to swim, and would need to find a different way to get to the egg. In the movie it showed mutated sperm, which shows that the sperm could not move correctly if it had 2 tails or no tail at all. Also a relationship between the function and the structure of sperm is that so many are let into the women’s body during reproduction, and if they weren’t, since so many die, Possibly no sperm could make it to the egg.
The fallopian tube’s structure benefits from its shape also. The function of this tube is to carry the egg to the ovary, because of its shape it can do this easily. The tube like structure acts like a slide for egg except it is a much slower ride.
Another connection which kind of relates to the last one is that inside the fallopian tube contains cilia. Cilia are always beating in one direction, and it is this beating that causes the egg to move forward through the fallopian tube.
The last connection I made was that during reproduction, the penis fits into the uterus, which helps transport the sperm from the male to the female.

The placement of many sexual organs can be very important.
Like that of the testes. They are placed outside of the male’s body so that they stay at a cooler temperature. They must stay at a cooler temperature so that the sperm can develop correctly. Over time the testes continue to make new sperm un like the ovaries in women.
The ovaries hold all of the eggs a woman will need for her entire life. When girls are born, their ovaries are already filled with all of these eggs. The eggs are released from the ovaries during ovulation (around the 14th day of the menstrual cycle) and then travel down the fallopian tubes.
The fallopian tubes have small little hair looking things called cilia. The cilia move back and forth pushing the egg down the fallopian tubes. If these weren’t here, it wouldn’t be as easy for the egg to get into the uterus.
The vagina is a muscular tube that leads down from the uterus. When a child is born, it has to travel down the vagina to get out of it’s mother. During child birth the vagina can expand so that the child is able to get through. The vagina is shaped the way that it is so that, during reproduction, the penis can transfer the sperm from the male’s testes to the female’s uterus to fertilize the egg.
The uterus is located just above the vagina so that the sperm do not have to go too far to reach the egg. The fertilized egg implants itself in the uterus where the fetus then grows until it is ready to be born.

Sperm: Sperm is shaped like a tadpole so that it can swim fast into the uterus and release the chromosomes quickly as possible.
Penis: The penis is shaped in a long round way so that it can act as a passage way for the sperm to swim out.
Vagina: The vagina is shaped with a large opening at the end for expansion so thatwhen a woman is giving birth, the baby can come out that way. It is also shaped that way so that a penis can fit inside.
Ovaries:The ovaries are shaped with two tubes and two areas for storing the eggs and the tubes leading into the uderus so that the egg can be fertilized.
Testicles: The testicles are shaped to hold the sperm until it is released into the penis.

penis:the penis is elongated to help the sperm get into the felopian tubes. The function is to carry the sperm to the uterus.
vagina:Recieves the sperm that the man secretes, and helps the sperm get into the felopian tubes.
felopian tubes: helps the fertilized(or not fertilized) egg get to the uterus.
testicles:Makes sperm for the man when he is ready to pass it off into the female uterus.
sperm:has a head and a tail. the tail helps it get to the unfertilized egg.
All these structures are in the place that most bebefits them for the survival of our people. If these parts weren’t in the place they are, who knows what would happen?

I think you did a very good job on explaining the relationships between the different organs and you also did a very good job explaining each organ’s function. There are many parts of the male and female reproductive system that are important. All the parts of the male and female reproductive system have a certain shape and function so they all combined together to make an important and here are a few examples of different sexual organ:
The vagina is shaped the way it is because it is made to receive multiple sperm during sex. The vagina also has another reason to be like that because it’s acts like a funnel the opening is large at first but it ends up small and opens up when it connects with the urethra. The purpose of the vagina is to capture the sperm coming from the penis. The location is also important because if it is too far inside the body the sperm will die when traveling to the urethra.
The urethra is shaped how it is because as the egg travels through the fallopian tube and it needs space to grow and eject out of the fallopian tube. The purpose of the urethra is so the egg can grow and develop inside the mother. During the process of birth the egg travels on the side of urethra and stays in the urethra. The location is also important because it needs to be somewhere large where it can be fertilized.
The penis is an important part of the male reproductive system because it is long enough to eject the sperm into the vagina. It is a long tube witch moves the sperm through the lower part of the body to fertilize an egg in the female reproductive system.
The location is just as important because in creates an easier access to the vagina.
The fallopian tube is important because it’s the tube that fertilizes the egg before entering the urethra. Its shape is important so it will have smooth and easy access to the urethra. The location is also important because being at the top of the urethra because it acts like a funnel and pushes the egg down.
The Testes are the most important part of the male reproductive organ because it keeps the sperm at a certain temperature so it doesn’t get to hot or cold. The testes are outside the body so they can stay at a certain temperature to not create any defects or failures in the sperm. The shape is perfect because it stores tubes that the sperm travels through to get ready for the sexual process.

Each and every part in the body helps in some way to keep a person or thing alive. All of these parts are structured differently to fit or produce different things.
The sperm has a head and tail. The tail is used to swim fast against the currents in the female so the sperm can make it to the egg to penetrate it. The head of the sperm is used to penetrate it’s way into the egg.
The scrotum hangs under the penis and holds the epididymus and testicles. The scrotum is important because it holds the testicles away from the body to prevent them from overheating. This is important because if the testicles are not at the right temperature, they will not produce as many sperm and the sperm they do produce will most likely be deformed in some way.
Another important part in the female reproductive system is the fallopian tubes. They are the tubes that the egg passes through. In the linig of the fallopian tubes, there are small hair-like structures called cilia which help the egg slide down the tube faster.
The epididymus is an important male organ because it is the tube that makes it possible for passing sperm from the male to the female. It is a tube that runs through the penis and when the male and female are having sex, the sperm passes through the epididymus into the vagina.
The uterus holds the baby when it is developing, and when there is no baby, it sheds the lining along with blood-also known as the menstrual cycle.
Each of these parts and more contribute to the reproductive system in different ways; making every part as important as the next.
