I agree with you. That must have been really scary to hear about a potential tsunami and not know if it’s true or not. Especially right after there’s been a major earthquake!

I wrote about this article last week. I thought a lot of the same things that you thought about this article. I never knew that having light on and doing things such as reading and watching tv could actually keep you up later. I think that’s really cool.
This article is for acex2inurface.
I really like the way you described why you liked the article you chose. I think the reason scientists think the leaves change colors is really cool.

I liked your article and I found it interesting that 2005 was the warmest year in the past century. I think that the reason why Africas average temperature went up was because most parts of it are on the equator.

I liked you report a lot. I thought it was great how you said you didn’t like the article that you read because most of the report I’ve read so far have said that they tought there articles were good and not boring to read. It was interesting to hear that someone did a report on an article they didn’t like.

I enjoyed reading your article. I never knew how smart monkeys are when they are young. Good job writing your reflection also.

I thought this was an intresting article, and I enjoyed reading it. I thought it was pretty cool how flies can silence crickets. I know I would want flies to do that in New York. Good article selection and good job on the article
This Comment is for rosie13.
I really liked how you found an article more out of the ordenary from somplace else. Also your reflection on why you were suprised was well written.

I never would have thought that they would be cloning horses. I thought they were more focused on people, but i guess some would that horses are more important than people :-] *cough cough
This is for dancingintherain102 I think it is very true that we don’t get enough sleep. Thank you for choosing the article! Now people will know about it!

Link: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2006/10/061025-oldest-bee.html
My article was called “Photo in the News: Oldest-Ever Bee Found in Amber. It was by Brian Handwerk and I found it on nationalgeographic.com (link above).
The article was about a fossil of a bee that was recently found. The bee was preserved in amber for the past hundred million years—making it the oldest bee fossil ever found. It has characteristics of both bees and wasps, and may be a link between the two of them.
I really liked this article. It’s pretty mind-boggling to think that one little bee is over 100 million years old! Even though they were disappointed because the bee is male (so they can’t find out how it pollinates), I think it’s amazing that it’s still around. They also think that the bee might help them find out more about wasps, which surprisingly, they don’t know a whole lot about.

Flu Shots Safe, Suggested for Babies, Toddlers
By: The Associated Press
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15402967
This article is about a study by researchers that looked at the side effects of flu shots in children. The study confirmed that the vaccine is safe for babies and toddlers. Researchers studied 45,000 U.S. children and found almost no side effects.
I think the article lacked details. It could have been improved with more details about how the study was conducted.

i considered doing this article for one of my reports (!) but i decided against it. I did, though, think it was very interesting.

Good reflection. Being critical about the article is something that I should do more.
Polariod Gangsta:
Your comments about Emily Sohn were good. It is great that you are thinking about her style of writing.
Rosie13:
Thinking about the history of theat species is smart. Based on what we are learning in ecology I also find it amazing that that species has been there for that long.
Remember This: Receptors Govern How Brain Cells Communicate
University Of Pittsburgh
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2006/10/061023192251.htm
The article reports that the University of Pittsburgh researched brain receptors. They discovered that the NMDA receptors relationships with ions increases the brain’s efficiency. They also discovered that a type of NMDA receptor, called NR1/2 receptors is heavily involved with depression and other mental diseases, like schizophrenia. NMDA receptors communicate frequently to forge a memory. The process is called synapses.
The article itself was very well written in many ways. The facts that the author gave were interesting, detailed, and numerous. There were also quotes from the scientists themselves. I find quotes such as this very essential to articles like this because those people are the best source as they went through the process of the discovery.
Dr. Jon W. Johnson, one of the scientists, said “This research helps explain how evolution accomplished a critical goal: Producing receptor proteins with finely tuned properties to help optimize brain function.”
Overall, I thought it was a very good article.
I got this article from sciencenewsforkids.org.the artcle is writen by Emily Shon. It is about forest fires. The article says that the forest fires cause hunderds millions of dollars each year. The article says that northern. I think that she did a good jod suporting her main idea. she did that by talking about the forest fires over and over again. I wouldnt change any thing about the article.

Monkeys in the mirror
Emily Sohn
http://www.sciencenewsforkids.org
I really thought this article was very interesting. I don’t know why but I am very interested in monkeys and how they act and they behave very funny in a good way. This article is about Capuchin monkeys in an experiment on what they do when they see themselves in the mirror. Humans look at themselves in the mirror and they know that it’s them ,but monkeys, well these ones, look in the mirror and it’s new to them at what they see. They’re not sure at what they see they don’t know if it is them or not. This lasted for 15 minutes and then they found out that it was them.
Response- my response for this article is about how these monkeys behave. These monkeys behave very funny and it is very interesting on how they work. I would like to become a scientist that works on monkeys but not in a bad way I would just want to test on their behavior and what they would do in real life situations. The female monkeys look at their reflection and they acted friendly towards there reflection and they tried flirting with it. The males look at their reflection and act and make a lot of eye contact and act threatening towards the reflection. I think that this was a good article and that monkey are really cool.
