Electricity
This article is the time line of electricity.
I thought it was good because I didn’t know that much about electricity. In 1663 Otto von found that spinning a rubbing a sulfur ball it makes static electricity. Lightning is another form of static electricity.
I never knew that Luigi discovered that dead frog legs placed on a zinc tray when touched by an iron scalpel that has been electrically charged. 1879 Thomas Edison made the invented the first light bulb. I never knew that much about electricity. And I think this article.

A Sweet Advance in Candy Packing
Feb.18,2004 by E. Sohn
http://www.sciencenewsforkids.com/articles
This article is about candy and how they put M&M‘s and gumballs into a container of the same size. They can fit more m&m’s in the container than gumballs because the M&M‘s are flatter and take up less space so you can squish more M&M’s inJ. It is also about two researchers who were playing around with M&M’s and put together a science experiment.
I did not really like this article because it was about M&M’s and gumballs fitting into a container. This piece had no subtitles, no underlined words and no bold words. It did not have any spark at all (that is my opinion). If the person who wrote this wants kids to read it, then they will need to change it totally! I was kind of disappointed because I thought it would be cool but it stunk. I thought this would be an awesome article because it was about candy. I think that other kids would take the article and read it because it is about candy. That is what I did and I really did not like it.
In conclusion this article stunk. People love to invent things but some are not that important.

Weekend Weather Really Is Different
This Article was written be E Sohn on October 13, 2003. It can be found on the website address: http://www.sciencenewsforkids.org/articles/20031015/Note3.asp
Summary
This article talked about how weekend weather can be different than weekday weather. For instance though it could be sunny all through the school week, when the weekend finally comes it could be pouring rain, that’s how the weather changes. Some of it though is air pollution. Through this article this topic is talked about.
Reflection
I thought this article was very good. I thought this because it had a very good length, so I wouldn’t get bored. The vocabulary was great and easy to understand.
Only one part I had some trouble with, it said something about windborne particle in California on weekdays would first affect the Southwest and then move to the Midwest area.
The beginning also draws you in. It says “Do you feel like the weather’s out to get you?” When I read that I got very interested in this article.
The fact that they provided an image was also very helpful for me to comprehend the information.
It was a great article!

Prairie Dogs Die Because of Mating!
Prairie (usually male) dogs are dying during their mating season. These animals are usually fast and strong, but since they have a short time to mate, they are focusing all their abilities into finding a mate. This is getting them killed because they aren’t watching their backs, so foxes, or even birds, can kill them. All this was found out by researchers who study a set of 100 prairie dogs.
I liked this article because it was informative and descriptive. It told me things about these fascinating creatures that I didn’t know. Like, some of the prairie dogs are really rare like the Utah prairie dog, and so on.

“Why Leaves Change Color”, by: Carl E. Palm , From: http://www.esf.edu/pubprog/brochure/leaves.htm
Every year around this time the leaves start to change color in a mixture of red, purple, orange and yellow. This process is called metamorphsis. Did you know that the fall colored pigment in the leaves is always there , but the chlorophill or the green pigment in the leaves is so strong you can’t see it?
I think that this article was very interesting and informative .For example. Did you know that when most leaves fall off trees they leave a leaf shaped scar. I also learned that only some trees lose there leaves . Pines, spruces, firs and many more do not. This article also made me wonder how chlorofill is made and how the trees make chlorfil from just sunlight. Is there any way to make a food source for humans out of sunlight? We have already found a way to make power out of sunlight and yet hardly annyone is using it so I guess if we found food made from sunlight no one whould eat it.

Popping to Perfection
by Emily sohn
This article is about why some popcorn kernels stay un popped in the microwave.
The article was ok because it was not very interesting. It was not very interesting because it did not have a lot of facts. It just talked about the out side of the shell. How it depends on how much liquid there is in side the shell, and when you are popping the popcorn in the microwave if it evaporates to quickly the kernel does not pop and so you bite down on the kernel you could chip your tooth if you are not paying attention. It also was not very good because it did not talk about different kinds of brands of popcorn and it only talked about how they are all the same but you don’t know that . That is why I did not really like the article.

Food for Life
This article is about how we need to make choices of what we eat. This article explained the disadvantages of eating unhealthy, and the advantages of eating healthy. It said what foods we are recommended to eat, and the serving size of each group (it also included a picture of the food pyramid). Speaking of the food pyramid, this article
explained how hard it was to come up with new ideas for the food pyramid. For example (for an animal), feeding a rat carrots can prevent it from cancer. Many foods and serving sizes are important, but so is exercise! Exercise balances out your diet so you stay strong and healthy.
I liked this article because it reminds me of how important nutrition is to the body. I am learning about the food pyramid and healthy eating in Home and Careers. Eating some specific foods can protect people from: cancer, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, weak bones, etc.
Adults are supposed to get 30-60 minutes of exercise, and kids are supposed to get 60 minutes. I also didn’t like this article because I wanted the author to explain more about the healthy and unhealthy foods (maybe she could show a diagram). I would have also liked to hear more about the serving sizes of food, and the food pyramid. Overall I liked and disliked this article for different reasons.

CHOCOLATE RULES!!!!!!
by Emily Sohn
This article is about that chocolate can actually be good for you.
I really liked this article because one of the reasons is that it is hard to make and you need the right kind of bean and coco butter and all sorts of things I mean who thought it would be hard to make chocolate but I guess you can’t make chocolate at home. I also liked it because it said that chocolate can be healthy for you so know you can tell your parents it’s healthy but to much is still bad for you because chocolate has of corse a lot of sugar and fats. But it is still cool that chocolate is kind of healthy.

This artical is about black holes and how they work. black holes pack a huge mass into a tiny volume, their gravty is so strong that they suck in annything that comes neer them.
I thought this artical was veaty intresting it talked about black holes and the thery that the hole unavirce was once one. It also had some veary cool picters of what black hales might look like if we could see them, they are invisabul ,but that makes me wonder, why do they call them black hales I mean it sounds good anb does sond better then cleer hole or large amount of mass pact into a small space, dont you think?
I think that if we ran out of room on this earth to put garbage and stuff we could put it in a black hole ,but maby we could put it on distant plannots but then there whoud be intife plannots reaking of garbage.
